New flyers are always welcome at our club. We have instructors with extensive flying experience who can safely teach you to fly.
Below is a picture of one of our instructors helping a new member to fly using the "buddy box" system. The two control units are connected so the instructor has access easily and quickly should you get in any situation where you need help. By using a "buddy box", the instructor can take control of the model at any point and avoid a crash. The "buddy box" system works with most makes of radios and you use your own plane to learn to fly. You fly with your instructor until such time as you and the instructor feel you are ready to take a basic solo test. After successfully completing this test you receive your "Solo Pilot Wings". You are then able to fly by yourself, and then you can take further instruction in aerobatics and advanced flying.
We encourage parents to get involved with their sons/daughters in this hobby. Radio control flying teaches flyers confidence and being accountable for their decisions and actions. Once they are off the buddy cord, the responsibility for safe flying is that of the flyer.
Women and children are encourage to participate in this sport. Recommended age for young beginners would be approximately 9 years of age.
